Cameo Application

Would you like to play at Section Three but don't really have the time/energy for a long-term commitment? Would you like to give the comm a test run before you join permanently? If so, the cameo option is for you.

To apply as a cameo player, you need to fill out the cameo application form below. In it, you're providing us with information about you, your writing, your character, and your idea for your character's cameo. Most likely this will involve one of the permanent cast members, since there is little reason for other characters being pulled into the village if it's not to help one of the main cast members find their emotional balance. However, if you have an idea for a character to appear in the comm without knowing any of the permanent cast members, you're more than welcome to apply and share your idea.

Make sure to check out the rules and the game play post—all of the things mentioned and listed there will apply to you and your character as well. That said, since you'll be playing a cameo, things like the character or body duplicates rules might not apply as strictly, while the activity check won't apply at all. If in doubt, please contact the mods at section3mods[at]gmail[dot]com.

Player journal: Your LJ or DW.

Email address and AIM: Your email address and AIM ID. Having an AIM ID is a requirement to play at Section Three. If you don't have one, this FAQ section explains how to get one.

Character name: Your character's name.

Character source: The source your character is based on. Not applicable if your character is an OC.

Character journal: Your character journal.

Cameo idea: This doesn't have to be worked out in every detail, but there should be at least a rudimentary concept.

Recent writing sample: Please link us to a piece of your writing. Preferably, it should be one featuring the character you're apping; if you're starting up a new (to you) muse for the comm, then it should be one featuring the character closest in personality to the one you're apping. Ideally, it should be very character-centred.

You can link us to a prose thread, an asterisks-and-italics thread, a transcription of a chat log or a piece of fiction. It doesn't have to be perfect, and we ask you not to go back and edit it before you give us the link. As long as you personally think you did well with this particular piece, it should be more than suitable.

Writing experience: Please tell us about your previous writing experience. How long have you been actively roleplaying/writing fiction or fanfiction? If English isn't your native language, how long have you been writing in English? Have you ever published anything? Are you planning to some day? What do you think are your particular strengths and weaknesses? We want to hear your thoughts on writing, please.

Reason for applying: Let us know what prompted you apply for a cameo. Is this a one-off thing or are you hoping to play more than one plot arc at the comm? Have you been reading along?

Once the mods have received your application, we will review it and contact you shortly. Whether or not your application will be accepted depends on the quality of your writing and your ideas, as well as the current in-game situation. We'd like to avoid getting repetitive, so if your plot suggestion is very similar to one that the game just ran through, you may have to either postpone or come up with a new plot.

If you've played a cameo at Section Three before, or if you're already a permanent player at the comm and would like to bring in another one of your muses for a cameo, you don't need to fill out anything. Just ping the mods on AIM, and we'll figure something out.
